CITROX® is a natural substance extracted from bitter oranges. Manufactured using naturally-derived, non-toxic, hypo-allergenic, and non-corrosive ingredients, CITROX® takes advantage of the bioflavonoids (plant-based compounds) found in plants. Not only can bioflavonoids protect the body against oxidative and free-radical damage, they can also increase the strength of the capillaries, thereby regulating their permeability to prevent ruptures and protect against infection. This helps to heal wounds and support a healthy immune system.
CITROX® is created using the bioflavonoids in the piths and pulp of bitter oranges, which are dried and ground into a fine powder. This is then mixed with other natural substances (organic acids) to produce a anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory agent.

Depending on the individual needs of each patient, Perio Plus+ products are designed for either short- or longer-term use in helping to manage acute dental problems. Perio Plus+ can be used prior to and after invasive dental procedures (e.g. tooth extractions, dental implant treatment or periodontal therapy) in order for patients to avoid the risk of infection. It is ideal as a temporary supplement in treating dental caries, gingivitis, periodontitis and peri-implant diseases – including peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis.
Perio Plus+ products can be recommended to patients that are in need of additional prophylaxis support in cases of inflammation and infection. Perio Plus+ can help patients regain or maintain healthy teeth, gums and oral mucosa. For patients who already have a healthy mouth, mechanical removal of biofilm without the use of Perio Plus+ is sufficient.

As a key ingredient in Perio Plus+ products, CHX is traditionally associated with negative side effects such as disturbed taste and dental discolouration. As Perio Plus+ combines the benefits of natural ingredients with those of CHX, taste perception stays intact. Dental discolouration can occur. In order to ensure the very best results, smoking cessation is advised, and we also recommend that patients avoid consuming coffee, tea and red wine while using Perio Plus+ products. This will reduce the risk of dental discolouration.
During therapy, patients should avoid consuming tobacco and foods that can stain natural teeth and dental restorations – including coffee, red wine, juices, green and black tea, berries, cherries, saffron, and curry. In combination with mechanical cleaning, this can minimise the risk of discolouration.
As with any other CHX-based solution, appropriate precautions should be taken when using Perio Plus+ products. Patients with known allergies or an intolerance to any of the ingredients contained in Perio Plus+ products should avoid using them.
Pregnant women, nursing mothers and children under the age of 12 should not use Perio Plus+.
When we think about ‘alcohol’, we typically refer to the substance that people occasionally drink, which is otherwise known as ethanol (C2H6O). Perio Plus does not contain any ethanol. In chemistry, however, ‘alcohol’ refers to any organic compound in which a hydroxyl group (-OH) is bound to a carbon atom. In this regard, Perio Plus+ does contain alcohol – phenoxyethanol (C8H10O2) – but only as a preservative agent in very small amounts of less than 0.5%.
And: Rest assured that the phenoxyethanol content of Perio Plus+ is so low that the product is proven NOT to trigger police breathalyser equipment.
Perio Plus+ Regenerate contains cyclodextrin and Citrox, which can inactivate viruses (current publication). In addition, PVP-VA and polylysine form a protective layer over the oral mucosa to prevent mechanical damage, in turn reducing the risk of infections.
The amount of cyclodextrin contained in Perio Plus+ Regenerate can provide additional protection against viruses, but cannot replace primary protective measures such as hand washing, mouth protection and eye protection.
